Beware of National Pride
Mussolini ordered his picture to be put on all stamps. Soon afterwards, the Italian post office received complaints from the postal workers that the stamps kept falling off the envelopes. Mussolini heard about it and ordered that the post office used a stronger glue.
"It's not the glue," the postmaster said, "it's because the people are spitting on the wrong side of the stamps!" :)
